Bernard Allison
Blues guitar master Bernard Allison will celebrate his father Luther's artistry in Prague this April. After a long ten years, he will return to Jazz Dock to pay tribute to his father, the legendary bluesman Luther Allison. He will perform live and showcase his latest double album, Luther’s Blues, which features twenty of his father's songs. Although Bernard was influenced by great guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, the greatest impact on him came from his father and the musical family he grew up in. However, he never confined himself to traditional blues; he has always sought his own musical language, innovating the blues style and pushing it into the present. At the concert in Prague, family roots will meet contemporary blues, spiced with funk and rock.
Anyone who has attended a Bernard Allison concert or listened to his albums knows how much it means to him to keep his father’s legacy alive. “From day one, I promised myself and my mother, Fannie Mae Allison, that I would always include one or two of my father’s songs on every album I record,” Bernard says. He has kept this promise throughout his musical career, always performing Luther's songs on his recordings and live shows. At the same time, he embraces a style that is more funk and rock-oriented, differing from the traditional blues in which he was raised.
