Kent Burnside
Blues Alive Tour 2024
Kent Burnside Trio
Kent Burnside was born in Memphis in 1971 and spent his youth in Holly Springs in the North Hill Country. He is the eldest grandson and one of the closest disciples and successors of the legendary R. L. Burnside, from whom he learned to play guitar while strumming together on his front porch. Growing up in Mississippi in the 1970s, where the wounds of the civil rights struggle were still fresh, he was literally amazed by the unifying power of music as black and white people peacefully gathered to hear his grandfather play at house parties. Kent began his professional career working with guitarist and vocalist Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers) for the Fat Possum Records label, but his big break came in the early 2000s when he toured with the legendary Buddy Guy. That's when his signature style of blues was born: dark, hypnotic, inspirational and very danceable. Kent worked for Samuel L. Jackson, helping him prepare for his role in Black Snake Moan (2007). He has also worked with Dan Aykroyd on the Blues Brothers stage shows. Aykroyd is a big fan and supporter of Kent's work. Kent has performed at clubs and festivals across the United States, and has also performed successfully in Europe and Australia. He has released two albums: My World Is So Cold (2014) and Kent Burnside and the Flood Brothers (2016).
