Michal Rataj & Oskar Török:Letters From Sounds

Michal Rataj & Oskar Török
Letters From Sounds

Friday 20/09/2024 from 19:00

The collaboration between these two musicians builds on previous projects set in the field between contemporary jazz and classical music, traditional instruments and live electronics. First it was the Points-Rataj Quintet (CD 2016), which evolved into an electro-acoustic trio with saxophonist Luboš Soukup (Hornscape, 2020). The new duo of Michal Rataj and Oskar Török attempts to establish an even deeper interaction between the virtuoso wind instrumentalist and a wide range of contemporary interactive electronics. Their musical vocabulary extends from electronic ambient through the overtones of club electronica towards the various positions of contemporary jazz and post-acousmatic music.

Michal Rataj – composer, sound performer and radio producer who composes mainly electroacoustic music and instrumental music for chamber groups and orchestra. He has recently been active as a real-time performer of his own acousmatic music, as well as sound performances alone or with various music partners in a wide range of genres ranging from sound art to contemporary jazz. Recently he has become known for several distinctive soundtracks for TV and cinema. He is regularly introduced by major performers, ensembles and orchestras in Europe and in the USA.

Oskar Török – born in 1980 (Humenné, Slovakia) and graduated from the Katowice Music Academy in Poland, the virtuoso trumpet player Oskar Török has performed with an impressive number of jazz band and fusion projects. Recently he has joined on stage with various setups of live electronics. He is well known in Poland as a player with the Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet, as well as in the Czech Republic with Vertigo and Iva Bittová, among many others.

Michal Rataj – live electronics, piano; Oskar Török – trumpet, piano, live electronics.
